FRIENDS FUN AND FITNESS
That's what's awaiting you at Five Islands Outrigger Canoe Clubs' junior ranks. We aim to teach both the cultural and technical side of this sport that originates in the Pacific Islands. The canoe is part of the Ohana (family) so we treat it with due respect. The juniors have now been NSW point’s winners for 3 seasons as well as coming second at nationals in the 2006-07 seasons. We are aiming to keep these titles for this coming season. We currently have the National U16 OC1 girl’s champion and the OC2 mixed champion paddling with us as well as State crew title holders. There are many opportunities within this sport. You can paddle socially just for the fun of it or you can compete. Over recent years we have trained and taken juniors to compete at World Sprint Championships which were held in New Zealand. The next one is California in 2008. We have also been to Fiji and the Cook Islands as a result of our close ties to Queensland Club Mooloolaba. So if you are aged between 10 and 19years, consider giving paddling a go. We paddle from Belmore Basin on Thursdays from 4.30 to 6pm and Saturdays 8.30 to 10.30am. Hope to see you there. Leia Sakaria-Nati FIOCC Junior Coach.
